Product Description

Most shops selling to go containers hand the customer a lidded bowl and hope the bag does the rest. This sleeve gives the bowl a handle instead. One die-cut paperboard blank wraps a round bowl: the bowl sits on the base, two side walls fold up, and their top ends meet so two oval cut-outs become one grip with board doubled under the fingers. An arch cut-out in each wall lets the bowl's side show through, so the food is part of the presentation rather than hidden. It ships flat, folds around the bowl at the pass in seconds, and prints on both panels, which is why it suits disposable salad bowls as well as grain bowls, poke and dessert bowls. MOQ is 10,000 pcs.

How the Sleeve Opens at the Counter

The sleeve arrives flat and banded, and it opens with one push. Hold the blank with both hands, press the two score lines inward, and the base drops into shape while the side walls stand up on their own. The bowl goes in from above, and the walls close against its body until the two handle cut-outs meet. There is no tape, no glue gun and no assembly jig at the pass, which matters when a lunch rush is running and nobody has a free hand. Other food packaging sleeves work on the same principle: the board remembers its folds, so the shape comes back every time it is opened.

An Arch Cut-Out That Shows the Bowl

Each side wall has a large arch cut-out, and it does two jobs. It clears the widest part of the bowl so the wall can sit flush instead of standing off it, and it leaves a window through which the bowl's contents are visible. For a salad box that is being handed across a counter, that window is the difference between a plain teal sleeve and a product the customer can see before they take it. Because the arch is cut from the same blank as the handle, the two openings are always in register, and the wall keeps an even border of board around the bowl all the way round.

Keeping a Dressed Salad Presentable

A dressed salad is the hardest thing to carry: the weight sits low, the dressing moves, and a tilted bowl sends it up the wall. The sleeve keeps the bowl upright because the grip is centred over the base, so the load hangs vertically instead of swinging. The side walls also stop the bowl from rotating in the bag, which is what usually smears dressing across the lid. For disposable salad bowls with a domed lid, ask for a grease-resistant coating on the food side so condensation and oil do not soften the board during a long delivery, and choose 400 gsm if the bowl is deep.

Sizing the Sleeve to Your Bowl Range

One artwork can cover a whole menu if the sizes are planned together. Send us the rim diameter and body height of each bowl you use, and we cut the arch and the fold lines to that bowl rather than to a nominal size, so a small grain bowl and a large salad bowl can share the same print and still sit tight. Most shops run three sizes and keep the same sleeve height. Because these are custom food boxes in everything but name, colour, board grade, lamination and the handle shape are all open to change at the sampling stage.

Product FAQs

Q1: Does the bowl slip out when the sleeve is carried?

No, as long as the sleeve is cut to the bowl it holds. The base panel carries the weight from underneath, the two side walls close against the bowl's body, and the arch cut-out wraps the widest point so the bowl cannot slide sideways. The one failure case is a bowl noticeably smaller than the sleeve: the walls then close on air instead of on the bowl, and it will rattle. Give us the actual rim diameter and body height rather than a nominal size, and test one filled sleeve by hand before the bulk run.

Q2: Will dressing or oil seep through the board?

Only if the coating does not match the dressing. Plain food-grade board handles a light vinaigrette for a normal delivery window but will show a mark where oil sits against it for longer. A grease-resistant coating on the food side is the usual answer for oil-based dressings, warm pasta and anything with a creamy sauce, and a PE lining is the strongest barrier if the bowl is likely to sit for an hour or more. Tell us the dressing type and the expected holding time and we will specify the coating.

Q3: How should we store the sleeves before use?

Keep them flat, dry and out of direct sun, in the carton they arrive in. Board takes on moisture from humid air, and a sleeve that has absorbed moisture loses stiffness and can bow before it is ever folded. Store cartons off a concrete floor and away from kitchen steam or a dishwasher line, and do not stack them higher than the count printed on the case. Once a carton is opened, use it within a reasonable window rather than leaving blanks exposed for weeks, especially in a humid climate.

Q4: Can we order different sleeve sizes for different bowl diameters?

Yes, and for a mixed menu you probably should. Each size is a separate die, so the arch and the fold lines are cut to that bowl's rim diameter and body height rather than scaled from one master. Shops usually start with three sizes covering a small grain bowl, a standard salad bowl and a large sharing bowl, and keep one artwork across all three so the shelf still reads as a family. Sampling covers all sizes at once, so you can check the fit of each before committing to the bulk order.
